Man walks across country in honor of sister

Thirty-one-year-old Brett Bramble and his pup Domino are on a trek to walk across the entire country.

The duo started their journey in Cape Henlopen, Delaware three days ago and are hoping to finish in seven to eight months in San Francisco, California.

Bramble shared his reason behind the trip with 47 ABC. “It’s about getting over the grief and letting people know how just how serious this epidemic is.”

It’s the second anniversary of Bramble’s younger sister Brittany’s overdose. He says the mother of three boys struggled with the wrong crowd and wanted to be better.

He continues, “She lit up the room when she walked in. She was just one of those that lived to help people. You could see it in her heart.”

Bramble says heroin wasn’t Brittany’s drug of choice, but ultimately it was one of the substances that stopped her heart.

He goes on, “She lost the fight. The drugs were just too powerful.”

She was one of more than forty-seven thousand people that died of an overdose that year.
According to the CDC, from 2000 to 2014 nearly half a million Americans died from drug overdoses.

Sharing these facts is the whole point for Bramble, who at one point dabbled in substances himself. The cart he’s walking with is not only equipped with a solar powered phone charger and tent, but photos of his little sister and some heart-wrenching statistics.

Bramble says, “I’m hoping that Brittany’s story can help save some lives. Just one would make it worth it, whether I knew about or not.”

Bramble is keeping up a blog on his website about his walk across the country. There’s also a go-fund-me link to help support the trip. To learn information about Brett Bramble, click here to access his website.
