Man says someone intentionally ran over Lewes snow geese

The DNREC Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police are investigating what appears to be a person purposely running over dozens live snow geese on the side of the Mulberry Knoll Road in Lewes. The remains of the geese, along with bloody feathers, are all that’s left.
Nichols Lank says, “They were flying everywhere, feathers going everywhere. It was pretty brutal. It was disgusting.”
Lank is describing what he says he saw driving down Mulberry Knoll Road on Sunday morning. He claims a black four door Trailblazer in front of him with two passengers inside suddenly made an abrupt turn into a field of snow geese. Lank believes at least 20 birds were hurt.
Astonished at the site, Lank immediately started chasing down the driver. He continues, “I put the floor down and went on as fast as I could to catch up to them. They almost side swiped a car when they hit Route 24. They took a right towards Peddler’s Village. I was passing cars on the shoulder trying to get up to them and get a license plate number.”
Lank says a car pulled out in front of him so he wasn’t able to catch them. Meanwhile back on Mulberry Knoll Road, a neighbor and her husband were trying to save what was left of the birds.
She goes on, “We tried to get them up off of the road so that they weren’t totally in the road for someone else to run over them.”
Another couple took two struggling geese to a nearby animal hospital. Both witnesses 47 ABC talked to Monday say they’re certain the person behind the wheel drove over the geese intentionally.
Lank says, “Yeah snow geese are a nuisance. I mean they destroy crops and they destroy property. You don’t just take your vehicle and run over a helpless animal that’s just trying to get something to eat.”
