Liza Hastings named MD middle school principal of the year

Bennett Middle School got their Monday started off the right way with a major announcement for their principal. Liza Hastings has been named Maryland’s 2017 Middle School Principal of the year.

Hastings says, “I’m still in complete shock.” She was selected out of 40 nominees by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals. They’re an organization made up of 750 principals and assistant principals across the state.

Her students say she’s more than deserving. Anisah Khattak says, “She’s amazing in so many ways. She’s always willing to have fun with us. She’s always telling us to try our best.”

Hastings says, “What I want for all of my students is to know that they can be anything they want to be. I want them to leave Bennett Middle School knowing that I believe in them and that the other adults in this building believe in them.”

Hastings will be honored in April at MASSP’s Spring conference in Ocean City.
