Lewes prepares for final public hearing for comprehensive plan

Tuesday night is the last public hearing for the city of Lewes’ Comprehensive Plan.
The state requires the city to revise the plan every ten years and it has to be submitted by March 31st.
It takes a look at the trends in the area and what Lewes hopes to achieve in the next 10 years.
A big point this time around is land annexation. The city has the ability annex land butting up against it’s limits.
A large part of that sits between the city and Route 1. According the Mayor Theodore Becker, that land is developable and the city wants to have an influence on what goes there.
Becker says, “We are concerned about the impact the traffic will have on the accessibility to Lewes in general. If Route 1 traffic becomes so congested that you can’t even get to Lewes, then we have another issue.”
The public hearing for the plan will be tomorrow at City Hall at 7 p.m.
