Laurel babysitter arrested, charged with rape

Preston Chambers, 29

Members of the Laurel Police Department say Preston Chambers, 29, of Seaford, was arrested Tuesday for the alleged rape of two children he apparently babysat.

Police say they received a tip of a possible sexual assault on Thursday, March 17, when a call was made to authorities by the alleged victims’ parents.

Investigations by the Laurel Police Department revealed Mr. Chambers had sexually assaulted a 6 & 9 year old while he was babysitting them.

According to officers, Chambers fled the scene before authorities got to the house, but turned himself into police Tuesday.

Private First Class Christopher Story of Laurel PD has confirmed with 47 ABC that Chambers is related to the alleged victims.

Chambers is reportedly being charged with two counts of Rape 1st Degree, two counts of Attempted Rape 1st Degree, one count of Rape 2nd Degree and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Police say Chambers was arraigned and committed to the Sussex County Correctional Institution in default of a $471,000 cash bond and a future court date.
