International Women’s Day: LWV encourages voting for gender equality

Tuesday was International Women’s Day. The theme for the celebration was #pledgeforparity.
In 2014, the World Economic Forum predicted that it would be 2095 by the time the world reached gender parity.
Last year they estimated a slowdown in the pace for progress, believing the gender gap wouldn’t close until 2133.
47 ABC spoke with Portia Johnson, a representative from the League of Women Voters on Tuesday about these estimates. She believes the key to social, economic, and political gender equality lies in voting.
She continues, “Seniors, they will come out in any kind of weather and vote. For some reason with our younger voters, it’s not like that. They should take a page from these old people. Say look if I want something I need to put the right person in office that’s going to fight for what I want.”
You can commit to take action to accelerate gender parity by making a pledge on the National Women’s Day website.
