Hawks Watch Season End To Morgan St.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team saw their season come to an end on Tuesday when they fell in the first round of the MEAC Tournament to Morgan St. 65-58. The Hawks held a 9 point lead late in the first half, but were unable to pull away and watched as the Bears came back in the second half to win the game.
UMES came out quickly to open the game. Dom Elliott connected on a couple buckets in the post for 4 of his 14 first half points to get the scoring started. Then Derrico Peck would go to a high flying act, hammering home a couple huge dunks. Once the inside game was working, Ryan Andino would provide a lift off the bench from the outside. He connected on a long two, followed by a three ball to push their lead to 9. With a couple minutes left in the first half, the Bears would go on a run. An and 1 just before the buzzer heading into half would trim the Hawks lead to just 4. The team would then go back and forth in the second half exchanging the lead with under 4 minutes to go. The Hawks would then get a score from Elliott to take a 1 point lead, before surrendering a lay in to only fall back behind by one. The Bears lead would grow to 4 before Devin Martin would go baseline, and get an up and under reverse lay in to drop. After free throws pushed the lead to 3, the Hawks would go for the tie with 30 seconds left, but Andino’s long ball was off the mark. The Bears would hit their free throws down the stretch to close out the game.
