Gov. Markell supports Testing Bill of Rights

Testing season is approaching in schools across the country, which is why civil rights and education groups launched the Testing Bill of Rights online on Thursday.

Delaware Governor Jack Markell is in support of the petition. The goal is to use the rights as a middle ground on assessments so tests are used in support of instruction, rather than the other way around.

The rights ask for fairer and fewer tests. They claim to advocate for students, teachers, and parents during a time where many are seeking ways to opt out of the exams.

Governor Markell says, “States as well as school systems across the country do have a responsibility to try and find the right balance of requiring assessments that help track student progress, while eliminating unnecessary and ineffective tests.”

The goal is to reach ten-thousand signatures on the Testing Bill of Rights within a months’ time.
