Funding for available farmers to improve water quality in select Chesapeake Bay Watersheds

Federal funding is now available for Delaware farmers in the Pocomoke, Choptank, and Nanticoke watersheds in an effort to conserve and protect their land.
It’s through the Delmarva Whole System Conservation Partnership, Field to Stream project. About $1.39 million has been made available to farmers to implement practices like precision agriculture, cover crops, and wetland restoration.
Amy Jacobs, the Watershed Restoration Director with The Nature Conservancy goes on, “It’s for practices that will increase nutrient efficiency on the farm with the goal of keeping those nutrients to grow better crops and increase fields. In doing so, that will minimize the amount of nutrients left over to leave the fields and into our local streams and rivers.”
Farmers interested in implementing any of these practices can visit their local USDA service center to apply by March 18th. That’s the first application deadline. They’re accepted year round. However, applications received by then will be ranked and considered for funding.
