kidney transplant. we spoke with officer trams and a co-worker of his that was willing to donate his own kidney – but was disqualified in the final stages. but more co-workers stepped up and colin bradley joins us line in studio as he talked to those co-workers today. that’s right david officer trams is obviously a special person having three separate co-workers step up to donate an organ. i spoke to the other two donors today as well as his medical team ahead of the surgery tomorrow. officer lenox trams of the easton police department has been on quite the roller coaster ride for several months. just weeks after finding out he needed a kidney he had a donor – but it fell through. that’s when another co-worker stepped up to give his own kidney. 22.12.27 we had a date scheduled to actually do the surgery and they came back and told me that one of my labs that my creatin level was high, and i needed to have an extra test done. 22.12.40 and that extra test brought heartbreaking news. for the second time – officer trams would have hope turn to heartache. and officer howard maxwell would have to break the news. 22.13.04 i pulled over on the side of the road and i sat there i couldn’t talk i couldn’t do anything 22.13.10 jill garvey was there to help. she also works at the department — and she’s maxwell’ girlfriend. but it wasn’t just emotional support. she had already passed the initial test to see if she could donate her kidney to trams. 22.13.19 i picked her up and we went immediately to – to see him and told him what was going on – and while we were still there 22.13.27 butt sot 21.59.32 i received a phone call that said are you still willing to go through the process and i was like absolutely 21.59.37 after twice having hope dashed by the more intense tests — a success. garvey got final approval to donate. 22.01.27 it was relief – not only for myself for what i was experiencing as we went through all of the test work – but for lenox because he already had the two strikes and i really did not want to be his third strike 22.01.40 doctor david lesser – who is performing the surgery – stresses the importance of a living donor. 22.22.27 and we really try to pursue that at university at maryland because then we can transplant patients right away – we can minimize the time they’re on dialysis 22.22.36 dialysis can really put a strain on the patient mentally and physically. which is why doctor anish hinduja was relieved to get his patient off of the procedure so quickly 22.36.54for him to be able to come off dialysis within 3 -4 months and get a living donor transplant is absolutely fabulous22.36.03 and in the end – trams will now get his new kidney — which despite hurdles and setbacks — was never in doubt. 22.08.48 there never was a conversation about it – it was just like – it’s lenox – let’s you know – let’s do it.22.08.54 and as i mentioned the surgery will be taking place tomorrow – and both trams and garvey tell me that they are not nervous – but excited – because of their full confidence in the team at the university of maryland. alright some great news there our well wishes to both garvey and officer trams as they undergo their procedure tomorrow. coming up —
