Dover man charged after loaded AR-15 found during traffic stop

Police in Dover say they found a loaded AR-15 rifle during a traffic stop, in a car with a person prohibited from having firearms.
Dover Police say on Thursday just before 10:00 PM, the Street Crimes Unit and Delaware Probation and Parole stopped a vehicle on South New Street and Division Street, for driving without headlights on.
According to the report, while Officers were speaking with the driver, 21-year-old Kenneth DeShields of Dover, they noticed a bag of .6 grams of marijuana, in plain view. Police say they then searched the car, and found a loaded AR-15 rifle with an obliterated serial number.
DeShields, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior felony convictions, was charged with possession of firearm by person prohibited, possession of ammunition by person prohibited, possession of firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to have headlamps on.
DeShields was later released on a $10,101 secured bond.
