Dover man arrested on manslaughter charges

A Dover man who’s father was the victim of a homicide in an October 2015 has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.  21 year old Jacob Leager was arrested by Delaware State Police after witness accounts provided details of his involvement in the death of Haley Henwood.

The investigation has revealed on the night of October 17, 2015, Jacob and his father were shot inside their home in Dover.  Jacob then picked up a gun that was dropped by one of the two suspects who broke into the Rodney Village home and chased after them as they ran from the scene. 

Delaware State Police say that Jacob chased Saleem Shabazz and Matthew Harrington to their car, shooting at them as they approached the vehicle.  Police say another person, Haley Henwood, was struck in the barrage of bullets. 

Henwood’s body was found in a side yard of a residence not far from the scene of the shooting, and the gun that Leager used was found later that day on the roof of a house according to police.

Jacob Leager was charged with Manslaughter and arraigned at JP2 before being committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $60,000.00 secured bond.

Police say Shabazz is currently being held in Howard R. Young Correctional Institution without bail and Harrington is being held in Montgomery County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to Delaware.
