Community police office to open in Cambridge

The Cambridge Police Department is expanding, not in terms of staff numbers but in terms of infrastructure.
The department is looking to establish a community office after redesigning a vacant storefront on Race Street in Downtown Cambridge.
Lieutenant Justin Todd of the Cambridge Police says the landlord has allowed them to temporarily rent out the space for free. Their hope is that it will help improve communication with the community they serve.
“Yes, we’re always up here. We’re always walking on the street, but to actually be able come in and say hi and sit down and talk to the officers one on one to get that personal feeling, to know that we’re out there,” He says, speaking on the goals of the building. “We want to be apart of that community as well.”
Lieutenant Todd says the plan right now is to have officers staffed there a few hours each day starting in May.
