Cambridge woman accused of stealing $19k from local church

A Cambridge woman is facing charges, after Authorities say she stole nearly $20,000 from a local church.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office says on Monday, Detectives arrested 32-year-old Ashley Ellis, in connection with a theft scheme that victimized the Bucktown United Methodist Church.

According to the report, from September 2015 through February 2016, Ellis took, and forged checks totaling more than $19,630, from the church, without their consent or knowledge.

After her arrest, Ellis was charged with operating a theft scheme over $10,000 but under $100,000, identity theft, forgery of private documents, obtaining money by forgery and issuing a false document. She was then ordered to be held on a $10,000 bond, but was released after posting.

Investigators say the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
