Brittingham’s No-No Highlights Double Header Sweep For SU Softball

The Salisbury University softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday afternoon as they swept a double header over Houghton College 10-0 game one, then 11-0 in game two. The Sea Gulls were paced in game one by senior pitcher Annah Brittingham who tossed her first career no-hitter.

Salisbury would jump out in game one to a slim early lead after Leanna Collins would steal home in the bottom of the first. Shortly after that, Kim Dorsey would rip an RBI triple to score Molly Simpson to push the lead to 2-0. The lead looked to be more than enough for Brittingham who had it going on on the bump. She would get a pair of strike outs to keep a perfect game going early before giving up a walk in the 3rd. The Sea Gulls then stretched their lead to 3-0 after Annie Pietanza hit into a RBI fielders choice. Brittingham then really settled in, coming up with 2 more of her 11 strike outs in the 4th. SU then put the game away with a monster 4th inning in which they plated 7 runs. The surge was paced by a 2 RBI double by Paige Knussman and a 2 RBi single from Pietanza. Brittingham would close the game out with a couple more strike outs to complete her first career no-hitter.

The teams would take a break and go right back at it in game two. There the Gulls would use another big inning, this time the 2nd, to grab control. Molly Simpson and Katie Sebane would both go yard in the inning as the Gulls posted 9 runs on the board. The Highlanders would manage just 3 hits and just could not keep up with SU offensively.

Salisbury University returns to work on Wednesday when they travel to Mary Washington College.
