“911 For Kids” launched for 2nd grade students in Wicomico Co.

911 are important numbers to know no matter how old you are. In Wicomico County, second graders will soon be taking part in a special program about knowing the basics.

The program is called “911 For Kids”, and it’s being launched by Wicomico Emergency Services.

We’re told children will be not only be taught what to expect when calling 911 during an emergency but also when not to call.

Detective Benjamin Mills of the Fruitland Police Department says they do get false calls every now and then, but they always respond.

“If it is a fake call, that’s when we have to take the time to and inform the kids that it’s wrong to call 911 and it’s wrong to play those types of pranks.” Says Detective Mills. “That’s where this program can come in, because they would have already done that for us.”

Wicomico Emergency Services has not said when the program will be officially launched; however, it has been endorsed and supported by a number of national agencies including the National Emergency Numbers Association.
