A group of entrepreneurs from middle and high school were able to talk with local CEO’s and business owners about what it takes to start their own business.

It was held by the Young Entrepreneur’s Academy (YEA), a 30 week class that teaches students from 6th to 12th grade how to run their own real business. This 2015 – 2016 class is the first YEA class on the Eastern Shore.  Over the course of the program, students write a business plan, meet with business owners, pitch their plan to investors, legally register their business, then by the end of the class they will be equipped to launch their real business or social movement.

Today Salisbury University hosted an event for the young entrepreneurs to rub elbows with business owners to pick their brains about how they started their business, setbacks they faced, and advice.

The event was also open to the public, and Ryan Daniher, a senior at SU, attended because the opportunity was too good to pass up.  He says it’s a great advantage because he can gain knowledge through people who have succeeded and he hopes to gain insight into his future in respect to the business owners.

The next step for the middle and high school students is to pitch their business to potential investors “Shark Tank” style.
