Wicomico Co. Board of Ed. looking for input in school calendar

A longer winter break or ending the school year earlier, are two options facing community members in Wicomico County right now.

The Wicomico County Board of Education wants to know what parents and students would prefer for the upcoming school year. There are actually three options, but essentially it gives the community the choice of two weeks winter break, versus just a week off.

The latter option would mean kids get out of school a week earlier in the summer. The assistant superintendent says as of right now it looks like the longer winter break seems to be the most popular option.

Dr. Cathy Townsend says, “That’s pretty much what it comes down too. Would you rather have a longer break in December or would you rather get out earlier in June? Really it’s only a difference of three days, but again we want all the input we can from the community.”

The board will be collecting input on the calendar until next Friday. They’re expected to consider the suggestions at their monthly meeting on March 8th.
