Va. lawmakers to unveil state budget proposals

Both chambers of the GOP-controlled General Assembly are set to unveil their proposed $100 billion two-year state spending plans.
Lawmakers in both the House and Senate will release their budgets Sunday, which will have significant changes from Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s budget.
Notably, GOP lawmakers have already said they won’t include any budget items related to expanding Medicaid, a long-sought goal of the governor that Republicans have steadfastly opposed.
House Republicans say they also plan to spend more money on K-12 education than McAuliffe proposed as well as give state employees larger raises.
GOP House members have said they’re also rejecting McAuliffe’s proposed small reduction in the state’s corporate income tax rate.
