UPDATE: Serious crash involving a pedestrian investigated

Members of the Delaware State Police say they are investigating the death of a 60-year-old man, after he reportedly was struck by a car when he stepped out in traffic.
Troopers say the incident happened around 6:10 P.M. Sunday, along Philadelphia Pike.
According to investigators, the driver of a 2004 Saturn was northbound approaching Harvey Road when the pedestrian was struck and thrown to the ground.
Troopers say they are withholding the name of the pedestrian, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities say he was treated on-scene by New Castle County Paramedics and then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, it is unknown at this point in the investigation if the pedestrian was under the influence, however troopers do not believe the driver was under the influence.
DSP say the pedestrian was not utilizing a marked crosswalk and was not wearing any reflective material.
Philadelphia Pike south of Harvey Road was closed for approximately three and half hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
