UPDATE: Facebook’s ‘like’ button gets ‘angry’ and ‘sad’ as friends

If you see something you don’t like on Facebook, you don’t have to leave a comment or simply scroll past it anymore.

The social media network has expanded its users’ ability to react to something on their news feeds.

Aside from the “thumbs up” button to “like” something, you can now choose from things like “wow”, “sad”, or “angry” once you hover the mouse over the original like button.

Facebook says it tested the reactions in a few markets last year and received good reviews; however, we spoke to a few students at Salisbury University about the new options and received mixed reviews.

“On the facebook button, it kind of makes it a little childish just with the whole emoticons like happy and sad…kind of reminds me of facebook back in the day when people would put the little flashing eyes and the sad face.” Says Jeremie Davis. “I don’t like it at all.”

Meanwhile, junior Shannon Wiley says she thinks the new reactions are great addition.

“I think it’ll add a lot to Facebook, whether that be more conversation without having to actually do the comments or just being able to interact with people different especially because there’s a “wow” button and like a “sad” button”.” Says Wiley. “If you don’t have the time to express your full comment, you can at least give some sort of support or answer to it.”

According to the Associated Press, the rollout is expected to take a few days. The feature will automatically appear on Web browsers, but you’ll need to update your app on iPhones and Android devices.
