UPDATE: Bomb threat bill heard in committee

A Maryland house bill regarding the possible penalties for false bomb threats was heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

District 38-C Delegate Mary Beth Carozza introduced House Bill 121 in January. The goal of the bill is to help law enforcement prosecute those who knowingly make false bomb threats.

It would help resolve jurisdiction issues when authoritiesare prosecuting a case. For example, if a false bomb threat originates in Delaware but is made against a Worcester County school, the bill would allow authorities in Worcester County to prosecute whoever called it in.

In a past interview with 47 ABC, Delegate Carozza said in a statement said “The high number of false threats targeting our local schools and causing major disruptions in our home community over the last several days only heighten the need for the General Assembly to pass this legislation this session.”

Matt Maciarello, a state’s attorney for Wicomico County, traveled to Annapolis on Tuesday and says the bill has been testified in the committee; however, it’s unclear when the committee will reach a decision to vote in favor of passing the bill.
