Tropical Cyclone Winston

Tropical Cyclone Winston is making big waves in the south pacific as it has winds up to 170mph with gusts up to 200 mph.  Winston directly impacted Fiji and evacuations were already in process as the storm neared.  The cyclone has strengthened over the last few days and is the first category five storm to hit the island nation of Fiji.  As the storm moves in to areas with warmer sea-surface temperatures it will be slow to decrease in strength.  The storm is also expected to turn abruptly to the left and almost U-turn to impact Fiji again. However the current forecast track will take it south of the island nation after it passed over the island.

This will be the largest storm to hit the country and experts expect to see major damage once the storm clears.  They expect water levels to rise, making roads impassable until the water recedes.  Also there are reports of trees being cut down before the storm landed to prevent additional damage.  It’s now time to wait and see what the Cyclone impacts the islands.
