Top contenders for Justice Scalia’s seat

Dr. Sam Hoff is a professor of political science at Delaware State University. He thinks President Obama will select someone moderate to fill Justice Antonin Scalia’s position.  

Dr. Hoff believes Merrick Garland, Patricia Millett, and Sri Srinivasan, all with the U.S. Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia Circuit, will be on the short list for the position.

He continues, “As a matter of fact all the sitting justices have come from the U.S. Court of Appeals except for Justice Kagan. That is a familiar place partially. For the D.C. circuit, that’s the home base. In D.C. they’re obviously politically attune to what’s going on.”

Dr. Huff also noted that the decisions of those serving in the D.C. circuit tend to get a lot more attention as well.
