Punkin Chunkin eyeing return to Delmarva in 2016

Punkin Chunkin may finally come back to Delmarva in 2016, as long as they find a host.  Frank Payton, President of the Punkin Chunkin Association says that they have had to tweak the way things were done in the past to make the event more marketable to government officials as well as a potential host.

Spectators will no longer be able to bring alcohol to the event, but Payton says it will still be sold on the premises.  The event hasn’t been held for the past two years, but Payton says they’re looking ahead, saying that in the past the event was cancelled due to insurance reasons, and that dispute has been settled.  Now the board is looking at all land options that they can possibly look at to make sure they have a future.

They hope to hold the event in Sussex County, where the Punkin Chunkin competition has its roots, but Payton says they are looking at locations all over Delmarva to host the event.  If all goes as planned, a location will be picked by the end of March, and the competition will be held from November 4th to the 6th.
