Prince St. teacher named Teacher Who Makes A Difference

Christy Cannell, a second grade teacher at Prince Street Elementary, was surprised by our news crew Monday morning. She was named the latest “Teacher Who Makes A Difference”, an award sponsored by 47ABC and Accurate Optical.
Cannell has been teaching for nine years and got her start in Dorchester County. She says she started as a librarian for Maple Elementary in Cambridge.
Aside from teaching students, Cannell has also started a dance team at Prince Street Elementary and the “Speak Life Letters” program.
“Rhe children get the opportunity to encourage staff members and children throughout the day, so we write letters everyday.” She explains. “They get so excited to say, you know “Mr. Nunzio we love how you help school out” and he’ll get the letter and say “oh my goodness! Thank you for encouraging, just really relaying the message of the power of words.”
