Police: Man seriously injured in Sussex Co. crash

Police are investigating after a man was seriously injured in a late Friday evening crash.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday as police say 41-year-old Paul Edwards was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway, north of Adams Road.

According to authorities, Edwards was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle. It then reportedly struck a utility pole before coming to a rest.

Edwards, who was the sole occupant of the car, was treated at the scene by Sussex County Paramedics before he was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was admitted with serious injuries.

We’re told Edwards, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was cited by troopers for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving at an Unreasonable Speed, Driving with a Suspended License, No Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance, and Failure to Transfer Title.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Sussex Highway were closed for about 1.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
