On the Job: Main Street Gym

When you think boxing you may think Ali, Tyson or Marciano. But maybe it’s time to add another name to that file, Mackonochie. This week on the job 47 ABC is in the ring at Main Street Gym.
First up, meeting the coach, Hal Chernoff! Hal owns the gym and has trained many successful boxers. Coach says in order to box, you must be in good physical condition. Standing in a class full of experienced boxers can be a bit intimidating.
First order of business, some cardio. Cardio typically includes jumping rope and sprints. After that, it was time to learn the proper boxer stance and how to throw a punch! But one very important aspect of boxing is your breathing. When boxers hit, they’re pretty vocal, something coach suggests doing.
Finally, it was time to get in the ring and when going against an opponent, safety comes first. After getting my butt kicked, coach still had confidence that I could throw a good punch, so he invited an older boxer with more experience into the ring. He was seriously kicking my butt, but then I gave it all I had.
Next week 47 ABC heads to Soft Touch Car Wash where we are put to the test of washing a few dirty cars.
