Milton Elementary raising funds for blood cancer research

As of right now, students at Milton Elementary have raised more money than any other school in the country for blood cancer research for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

It’s through the Pennies for Patients Campaign. Students are encouraged to collect spare change to bring back to school each day to help fund research to find cures and better therapies for blood cancers patients.

One student brought in more than $70 in change on Friday. In the past five years, the school has raised more than $11,000. Students hope to reach their $3,000 goal this year.

Pete Stephanos, a 5th grade teacher at the school says, “They’re learning that they can actually take part in helping. A lot of them are aware of lymphoma and leukemia, but aren’t quite sure how to help. So what it allows them to do is pick up loose change around the house and they get involved with their family.”

Milton Elementary will finish their fundraiser by the end of next week. You can call the school at 302-684-2516 to learn how you can help donate to their campaign.
