Midday fire in Selbyville damages three homes

Over three hours after the fire started at a home on Bayberry road in Selbyville, Del. fire fighters were still trying to put a stop to it. The fire claiming the home it started in and damaging the two surrounding homes.

Fire officials say the fire was reported shortly before noon.

A couple lived there, but only one person was in the house at the time of the fire and made it out with only minor injuries.

Neighbors say people were getting out of their cars, as the smoke could be seen from miles away.

One of those neighbors who stopped to take in the wreckage tells us what he saw standing only feet away from the fire.

“Phew it was intense because…I mean the heat of the fire because we were all standing by the front door. It was just so hot it was crazy,” said Scott Mumford, who lives across the street.

Mumford says the couple that lived in the house are currently staying with friends in the neighborhood.

“They’re shook up, but they’re safe, ” Mumford said. “We got a nice neighborhood here, it’s pretty special so they’ll, I think they’ll get through this>”

Fire investigators still had not determined the cause of the fire as of Monday night.

Officials say the total damage to all three homes is estimated at over $1 million.
