Man found dead in burned Accomack County home

A fire in Onancock is under investigation, after a man was apparently found dead inside.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says on Monday just before 9:30 AM, Deputies responded to reports of a person found dead in a Northside Road home. Once on scene, Investigators say they found 70-year-old Leland Helmstetter, Jr., deceased inside, and an area of the house burned.

The Sheriff’s Office says the fire looks to be accidental, but that at this time, the investigation is on-going. Helmstetter’s causes of death, is currently pending a report from the Medical Examiner.
