Lady Hawks clamp down late to drop SC State

The UMES women’s basketball team won moved above .500 in the MEAC Conference today, defeating South Carolina State 61-55 on Homecoming at the William P. Hytche Center in Princess Anne.

Cyani Byrom led the Hawks with a game-high 17 points in the win, while forward Keyara Eaton pitched in with 12 points. The Hawks led 31-26 at the half. The Bulldogs would tie the game mid-fourth quarter, only to have the Hawks pull away thanks to some clutch buckets from Byrom.

The Hawks move to 9-18 overall and 7-6 in the MEAC Conference. UMES goes on to host Florida A & M on Monday.
