Healthy and quick? How healthy foods could find their way into vending machines

Healthier vending machines could be on their way to Maryland, at least on state owned property.

New legislation proposed in Maryland’s State House by Sen. Joan Carter (D – Baltimore) would require 75 percent of food and beverage options to be healthy choices in vending machines on state property.

That means they would not be able to contain more than a specified amount of sodium or trans fat.

Carter says the legislation would help combat the obesity problem within the state.
