HB-121 aims to prosecute false bomb threats

The Maryland House of Delegates has unanimously passed a bill from an Eastern Shore Representative in an effort to prosecute individuals behind false bomb threats that have plagued the area.

Del. Marybeth Carozza (Dist. 38C) says the bill would allow law enforcement to prosecute the crime of making a false bomb threat in the county in which the threat was directed, regardless of where the call originated or was received.

For example, if a Worcester County school received a threat from Delaware, that individual would be prosecuted in Worcester County.

Carozza says she wished to thank her colleagues for their support of the bill.

“These recent bomb threats have endangered our public safety and caused major disruptions both on the Lower Shore and throughout Maryland. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to move this legislation,” Carozza says.

House Bill 121, formally known as Criminal Law – False Statements Concerning Destructive Device of Toxic Material – Venue, now heads to the state Senate for approval.
