Hawks Start Fast But Barely Outlast Howard

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s basketball team survived a furious rally from Howard to hold on for a 62-59 win. The win improves the Hawks to 6-14 and 4-4 in MEAC play.

The Hawks came out red hot early in the first quarter, outscoring the Bison 21-6. Taryana Kelly would score a couple straight baskets down low and would get the action. Then CC Byrum would add a couple baskets in transition. But just when it looked like UMES was well on their way to rolling to a win, the Bison came storming back. They would outscore the Hawks 3 in the second quarter, and then by 14 in the third quarter to come back and take the lead. But the Hawks would settle down and fight their way back. Moy Subritzky would hit a three to give them the lead as they would find themselves in a one possession game in the 4th. The Hawks would then be able to close it out late with free throws for the win.

UMES returns to work Saturday when they host Hampton.
