DIAA Wrestling State Champion Finals

The DIAA State Championship Wrestling tournament began Friday at Cape Henlopen High School, than finished up Saturday evening with the finals. 

It was a packed gym throughout the entire day, and even more packed during the finals. They had to open another section of bleachers just to accommodate the crowd that almost doubled in size from last year. Everyone was there to cheer on their favorite wrestler and show support for this sport. 

There were three returning State Champion wrestlers who were in the finals representing the Henlopen Conference, and two of them ended up winning and becoming back-to-back State Champions. 

The Results are as follows: 

106:  Cape Henlopen’s Anthony Caruso over Milford’s Robber Rosser

113: Back-to-back Champion Cameron Hayes, Caesar Rodney, wins second state title, over DMA’s Shane Cawman

120: Smyrna’s Gregory Baum over St. George Tech’s Nicholas Novarnik. 

132: Back-to-back Champion Chase Archangelo, Smyrna, over Sanford’s Niko Chilson 

138: Sanford’s Andrew Brooks over Dover’s Nicholas Lee

145: Sussex Central’s Justin Bennett over Milford’s Barton Dalious 

152: Sussex Centrals Brandon Bautista over Caesar Rodney’s Thomas Gallucci

160: Cape Henlopen’s Cory Lawson over last year’s champion, Smyrna’s Kalen Wilson 

170: Smyrna’s Larsen Wilson over Sal’s Logan Montgomery

182: Sallies Joseph Miller over Milford’s Kenny VanVordt 

195: Caesar Rodney’s Michael Clavier over Andrew Genett 

285: Woodbridge’s Dominique Pierce over defending champion Brandon Dooley from William Penn
