Delmarva Snowfall Exceeding Winter Averages

Just 24 hours ago temperatures were in the teens and 20s with snow falling across the peninsula. Now it’s close to 60 with heavy rain. The snow eventually changed to sleet and freezing rain around midday before changing to all rain during the afternoon and evening.

Salisbury actually set a daily snowfall record yesterday. The Salisbury airport officially reported 4 inches of snow, breaking the old record on that date set back in 1940.

Not only did it break a record, it also put our seasonal snowfall average above normal. Salisbury only averages 9.9 inches of snow per winter. This recent storm puts Salisbury at the 13 inch mark. December was fairly mild and recorded no snow while January and February turned colder and more active. Just one month ago I wrote a blog about how this winter has been a dud so far for snow fans. Now, one month and two significant snowstorms later, we are above average with more winter to go.
