Cape Henlopen High School receives $100,000

The Cape Henlopen School District just got quite the financial bump in the form of a donation. Cape Henlopen High School just received $100,000 from locally based company J.G. Townsend Jr. & Company. While the school says they are very grateful for the gift, they are still undecided on what it will be used towards. But overall, superintendent Robert Fulton says, “It’s a good situation to be in.”
Fulton is the superintendent of the Cape Henlopen School District and he says they’re extremely fortunate for the donation from J.G. Townsend Jr. & Company. But this is not the first time that the Georgetown-based food processing company has helped. Fulton says they have been partnered up since 1990.
Fulton tells 47 ABC, “They continue to support the district so it’s an ongoing thing that they really care about cape they care about what we try and do here and support us in many different ways.”
47 ABC also spoke with Brice Lingo, chairman of J.G. Townsend Jr. & Company and he says, “We have supported the Cape Henlopen School District for decades because we feel that there is nothing more important to a community than the education that it provides the students.”
Lingo says their motto is “give where they live” and he knows the money will be put to great use. Lingo tells 47 ABC, “We have complete confidence that the school board will spend it where it is needed most.”
Fulton says there isn’t a plan in place about what the money will be spent on and no conversations have been had yet, but the next step?
Fulton tells 47 ABC, “Obviously sharing these conversations with our board of education to sort of ear mark where it could earmark what it could do for a program or what it could do for a school or for different students we really haven’t gotten that far yet.”
But Fulton says one thing is for sure. He tells 47 ABC, “It just shows what a great place this is to work and to live.”
47 ABC also spoke with Senator Ernie Lopez and he says, “These are difficult fiscal times for our state and to have this kind of an investment given to our children and our schools here locally is something that’s really important. Our schools are our most precious economic development piece and we want to make sure they get supported and again it’s great to see the business community step forward.”
