Bayside Champs! Warriors 2nd Half Help Top CSD

For the first 16 minutes, it looked like it was Cambridge’s game to lose.
For the last 16 minutes, it turned out to be Pocomoke’s game to win.
The Warriors used a big second half run to help run past the Vikings on Thursday night to win their first Bayside Title since 2003, 61-47 the final.
The Vikings came out of the game fired up, and it showed in their defensive pressure. They would continually beat the Warriors press, and Dre Greene would finish it off with scores at the rim. Na’ail Thompson would run the show at the point, as with strong rebound in the paint, the Vikings controlled the pace, and the game itself early on. Even with everything going their way, Pocomoke would still be hanging around in the game. LiCurtis Whitney would muscle a couple scores in down low, and then Leander Roberts would give his team a lift. He got back to back monster blocks, then nearly took a Tyler Nixon dish for a dunk as he got his team within 1 after the first. Nixon continued to attack the rim in the second quarter, and would get a tough lay in to go just before the buzzer to cut the Vikings lead to 23-21 at the break. Cambridge had gotten Pocomoke to play their game for the first 16 minutes.
But the Warriors would get them to play theirs in the second half. The offense exploded in the second half for Pocomoke, as Tyrone Matthews would add a couple scores in transition, while Jerrick Johnson was able to knock down a couple shots from the outside. The lead swelled to double digits by the end of the third, and Pocomoke continued to apply the pressure in the 4th quarter. With Nixon and Matthews running the point, the Warriors were able to close out the game for the win.
Both teams await the results of Fridays games to find out who they will be playing in the second round of the state tournament on Monday.
