2nd half surge pushes DSU past UMES

The Delaware State men’s basketball team got an upset win on Saturday afternoon, dropping MEAC rival UMES 75-71 at Memorial Hall.

The Hawks led for nearly 30 minutes of the game, including a 10 point lead midway thru the first half. Delaware State would storm back in the second half, led by reserve guard Deandre Haywood’s 24 points. Freshman point guard Devin Morgan scored 16 points, and Kavon Waller came off the bench to spark the Hornets with 15. For UMES, Dominique Elliott noted another double double, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ryan Andino finished with 12 points off the bench for the Hawks.

Both teams are back in action on Monday, UMES will travel to DC to take on Howard, while DSU heads to Baltimore to face Coppin State.
