UPDATE: Multiple bomb threats made to area schools by “automated calls”

Several schools were evacuated after multiple bomb threats were apparently made to several different schools, Monday morning.

According to a Delaware State Police spokesperson, threats were made to Indian River High School, Seaford Middle School, and Caesar Rodney High School.

In a statement released Monday – officials say “We are disheartened by this threat to the safety of our staff and students and the disruption of our school. We will continue to provide a safe place for our staff to work and our students to learn and grow.”

Authorities say the threats were made through “robotic calls,” meaning they appear to have been sent via computer.

According to Delaware State Police all three of those schools were evacuated, and were searched. All three schools were deemed safe and the students and staff were let back into the respective buildings.

There was also an investigation underway in Smyrna, as Smyrna Police posted on their Facebook page that they are investigating a bomb threat made to Smyrna Elementary School. The building was also eventually cleared. No word yet on if that threat was made via computer, as well.

There was also a threat made to Lulu M Ross Elementary School in Milford. School district officials say that school was evacuated Monday morning and has already been cleared. Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Kohel tells 47 ABC the threat was made via a “robotic call” as well.

“All of the schools in question have a school resource officer so there’s already a trooper or police officer that is assigned to those school districts. We’ll continue to monitor any other phone calls or any suspicious activity,” Fournier said.

Wicomico County Public School officials tell 47 ABC that Parkside High School also received a bomb threat through an automated call. We’re told the building was searched and nothing was found. School officials say that students were not evacuated because they felt there was no reason to believe that was necessary.

In a statement released Monday, officials said, “We are disheartened by this threat to the safety of our staff and students and the disruption of our school. We will continue to provide a safe place for our staff to work and our students to learn and grow.”

In Talbot County, Easton Elementary reportedly received an automated bomb threat Monday morning, officials say they were evacuated and cleared.

47 ABC made calls to others school districts around Maryland’s Eastern Shore and found that no threats were made to schools in Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, Somerset, or Worcester Counties.

In Accomack County, officials say Nandua Middle School received an automated bomb threat around 10:39 AM Monday. Officials say all students were accounted for and no bomb was found. The Accomack County  Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating.
