UPDATE: Arrest made in stolen Laurel PTO funds investigation

A local school district says that there has been an arrest made, after funds were stolen from two separate organizations whose finances are not managed or monitored by the District.
The Laurel School District says that an arrest has been made in connection with the theft of funds from the North Laurel Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization. The suspect has apparently been put on unpaid leave.
Laurel Police tell 47 ABC that the suspect arrested is Kimberly Parker. The theft of P-T-O funds from North Laurel Elementary School, was first reported to Laurel PD, on January 4th. Police say Parker faces a charge of theft over a thousand dollars, which is a felony.

Kimberly Parker, 48, of Laurel, Del.
The Superintendent of the Laurel School District, Shawn Larrimore, says “I can tell you that the person is an employee of Laurel School District and is on unpaid leave. This suspect has no affiliation with the PTO, none.”
Superintendent Larrimore does stress that no arrest has been made in a second case, reported to police on January 6th. In that case, the Laurel Education Association reportedly secured an independent audit of its bank account due to concerns over financial irregularities.
Both investigations are ongoing.
