Two injured in Officer involved shooting in Accomack Co.

21-year-old Nadir Amir Toppin of Accomac, Va.

Authorities in Accomack County say they are investigating a Friday night officer involved shooting, that apparently injured two people.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says around 9:45 PM, Officers from the Onancock Police Department were patrolling the Pine Street Apartments in Onancock, when they say multiple people firing gunshots. Officers apparently confronted one person involved in the incident, who in-turn reportedly pointed a gun at the Officer, at which the Officer then fired one shot.

Police say that person fled the scene, but a second, 21-year-old Nadir Toppin, of Accomac, was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm. He was reportedly released on bond on Saturday.

During the investigation into the incident, Officers reportedly found a person with multiple gunshot wounds to their body, and rushed them to the hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

Shortly there after, the Sheriff’s Office reportedly got word of another gunshot victim, at the Onancock Square Apartments. Deputies reportedly responded, and rushed the victim to an area hospital, where he was apparently treated, and released.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says they are continuing to investigate the incident, and are working to determine the identities of the suspects, as well as any involvement by the gunshot victims. In addition to the Onancock Police Department, the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says they were assisted by the Virginia State Police and the Onley and Parksley Police Departments.
