Tempers Flare In Hurlock As Mardela Edges Eagles In OT

The Mardela boys basketball team earned their second win of the season as they traveled to Hurlock on Thursday and outlasted North Dorchester in overtime 70-64. The win improves the Warriors to 2-10 while the loss drops the Eagles to 2-8.

The teams would be in a battle early on. The Warriors would grab an early lead as Tyler McCoy and Caleb Corbin would both be in for big scoring nights. The home team would go on a run though as Dajuan Malone and Andre Marable would string together a couple baskets take the lead. North Dorchester would grab a small lead late in the 4th as a Marable lay in would give them a 6 point lead with just over a minute to go. Corbin would then connect on a floater, while the Warriors would hit a pair of freethrows to get within 2. North Dorchester would then miss a lay in with Mardela grabbing the rebound and having one last chance to either tie or take the lead. McCoy would get the ball on the left wing, drive baseline and get a floater to drop to tie up the game and take them to overtime.

There just over a minute into the extra frame, tempers would flare. Corbin would be bringing up the ball while the Eagles would go to a trap at mid court. Corbin would get pushed off the court, resulting in several other players charging in. Benches would clear, as fans would get onto the court as well. Eventually order was restored as both Marable and McCoy would be ejected from the contest. Corbin would then take over, adding a couple more buckets as the biggest shot of the game belonged to Nick Peterman who hit a freethrow jumper to ice the game for the Warriors.

Mardela returns to action on Tuesday when they host Pocomoke, while North Dorchester will return to work Tuesday when they travel to Colonel Richardson.
