Officials say a barn was destroyed in a fire after crews from multiple agencies battled flames for almost two hours Sunday morning.

The Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company says they responded to the barn located on Hosier Street just before 11 a.m.

Assistant fire chief Travis Timmons says when they arrived, they found the barn fully engulfed with “flames shooting out the front”.

According to Timmons, the two-story barn was built in the 1900’s and currently used for mechanical purposes.

He also tells 47ABC, a nearby house about 50 feet away from the barn was slightly damaged from the heat.

Timmons says the cause of the fire was a wood stove used for heat.

Other assisting agencies included fire companies from Roxanna, Frankford, Dagsboro, Bethany Beach, Showell, and Bishopville.
