Salisbury moves to get rid of abandoned houses

The Salisbury city council is taking measures into their own hands to make sure their city does not become full of abandoned houses.

Monday the council passed a referendum which allows the city to quickly reclaim these properties.

Mayor Jake Day said that quick redemption of these homes could actually mean that the city would be able to reduce the prices on them and then turn them over to organizations that would rehabilitate them.

“This is a tool to help us clean up the properties that we do have that exert a negative influence on property values and ensure that this process moves forward more quickly on those properties,” Day said.

Day said the objective of this is to get people back into our neighborhoods.
