Punkin Chunkin eyeing return to Delmarva in 2016

Punkin Chunkin is only step away from officially returning to Delmarva according to chunkin officials.

President of World Championship Punkin Chunkin, Frank Payton, tells 47 ABC that they are looking at farm locations in Caroline County, Worcester County, Sussex County, as well as a few others as a possible home for their 2016 event.

Punkin Chunkin has not taken place on Delmarva since 2013, when someone was injured at the event and then sued the farm it was held on.

Last year the event was scheduled to take place at the Dover Speedway, but the cost of insurance was too high for the non-profit to afford.

Now with insurance squared away, Punkin Chunkin is looking to make a come back.

“I feel very optimistic based on the conversations I’ve been having with county administrators and the tourism people in this area that 2016 the chunk will happen on Delmarva,” Payton said.

Payton said as soon as they have a location locked down they will let everyone know via their social media accounts.
