One injured in Trappe house fire

A Trappe man was apparently injured in a house fire on Monday night.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says on Monday just before 11:25 PM, an automatic smoke alarm alerted officials to a fire at a home on Rumsey Drive, in Trappe. Firefighters with the Trappe Fire Department reportedly responded, and had the blaze under control in about ten minutes.

One victim was injured, and was rushed to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for smoke inhalation and first and second degree burns. The victim is reportedly in critical, but stable condition, and has burns over 5% of his body.

Officials say the fire started in the living room of the single story home, by carelessly discarded smoking materials. The blaze has been ruled as accidental. Damages are estimated at $100 in contents. The Talbot County Sheriff apparently assisted in the investigation.
