Ocean City weathering the storm

For Ocean City snow really hasn’t been the problem during this most recent storm, it’s been the strong winds and flooding that have done damage according to town officials.
According to Mayor Rick Meehan, most of the damage has occurred in the downtown area, but nothing is what he would call “significant.”
The worst of the damage came at the inlet Meehan said, where the fishing pier was partially destroyed. Meehan said that’s the third time in five years that has happened, but added that the pier will be rebuilt.
As a result of flooding Meehan said that south of Philadephia Street has been closed off and that some roads on the bay side are under water.
Meehan said as the storm continues public safety crews will closely monitor the damage.
“What we’re doing is going out and assessing everything right now. If there’s something that needs to be addressed immediately, like we had some debris on Baltimore avenue that was removed, we’ll do that type of thing. But mostly we’re just going to wait and ride out the storm,” Meehan said.
Meehan added that this is nothing that Ocean City cannot handle and that as soon as this storm is over things will quickly be restored to normal, hopefully by the start of next week.
