Ocean City announces next city manager

Ocean City’s national search for a new city manager is over. After receiving a unanimous vote by the city council, Douglas Miller is the man for the job.
“This is a winning team and I’m looking forward to being apart of it,”, Said Miller, “It’s great to be back in Worcester County and back on the shore. From the professional side and the personal side, it’s very exciting for us.”
In charge of overseeing everything from Ocean City’s development to creating it’s budget, Miller tells 47 ABC the transition into his new position should be easy because of his background. He’s served as Aberdeen’s city manager since 2006 and before that he held town manager positions in La Plata and Snow Hill.
“The first thing we have to do is get a budget done and coming this late in the budget season, that’s probably going to captivate most of my time, but I also have to learn the organization, learn the people.”
The position was last held by David Recor who resigned in July after three years as city manager. That’s after Recor was charged with negligent driving.
Back in July, Maryland State Police told us that he was driving an Ocean City vehicle when he hit a roadside pole near Golf Course Road. After pleading not guilty he received probation before judgement.
Mayor Rick Meehan has been interim City Manager since then. He tells us that through the support of council and other city officials things will be ready to go when Miller steps in.
“We were able to keep moving things forward without skipping a beat.” Mayor Meehan told 47 ABC, “When I hand the key over to him everything is going to be right there as it should be, for him to just pick it up and run with it.”
Miller will begin working under the title of city manager starting February 8th.
